Agriculture & Land careers

Farming, land-based engineering, veterinary work, tree work and keepering — honest pay, tied housing, subsidy reality and careers that stay outdoors. No recruitment pitch.

Farmer / Farm Manager
You run a farm business — crops, livestock or both — through weather, markets and a subsidy regime that is being wound down. Income is volatile; employed farm management is the steadier version of the same job.
Agricultural Engineer
You keep the machinery that grows food running — servicing, diagnosing and repairing tractors, combines and precision kit at a dealership workshop or out in the field. The shortage trade nobody talks about.
Veterinary Surgeon / Vet Nurse
A regulated clinical profession with a 5–6 year degree, real out-of-hours work and pay that finally caught up — but still trails the cost of getting in. Rewarding, exhausting, and honest about both.
Tree Surgeon / Arborist
You climb trees with a chainsaw — assessed, dismantled and lowered piece by piece over greenhouses and conservatories. Physically brutal, genuinely dangerous, and impossible to automate.
Gamekeeper / Ranger
You manage land and wildlife for a living — running a shoot on a country estate, or managing a nature reserve and its visitors. Solitary, seasonal, modestly paid, and usually bundled with a house.
