Marketing, Media & Comms careers

You manage an organisation's reputation — press releases, media relations, campaigns and crisis comms. Low barriers in, fierce competition, and AI is eating the drafting work.

You plan and run the campaigns that make people buy — content, email, social, events and brand. Broad entry routes, real progression, but first-draft work is exactly what AI does now.

You run the measurable side of marketing — paid search, paid social, SEO, email and analytics — and live or die by the numbers. Better paid than generalist marketing, but the platforms and AI both want your job.

You write the words that sell — ads, emails, landing pages, scripts, brand voice. Portfolio beats qualifications every time, but the freelance-dominated market now competes directly with AI-generated first drafts.

You run a brand's social presence — content, community, paid social and the 8pm crisis. Growing strategic clout and decent senior pay, but the role is always-on and junior content work is being automated.

You find and report stories — news, features, investigations — for shrinking newsrooms and a freelance market with uneven rates. Vital work, genuine highs, and honestly poor pay at the bottom.

You decide what a company publishes and how people find it — content plans, search optimisation, information architecture. Technical specialists earn well; the content-production layer beneath you is being automated.

You plan and deliver events — conferences, exhibitions, weddings, festivals — months of logistics for a day that either lands or doesn't. Low pay relative to responsibility, unsocial hours, and one of the least AI-exposed jobs in this sector.
