Science & Environment careers

You run the tests, calibrate the kit and keep the lab honest — in hospitals, universities, pharma and industry. No degree needed to start; pay is modest but the work is real science from day one.

You design experiments, generate knowledge and write it up — in universities, institutes and industry R&D. A PhD is the real entry ticket, and the honest truth is academia and industry pay very differently for the same brain.

You assess the environmental impact of what clients want to build — contaminated land, flood risk, EIA, compliance. Degree expected, demand driven by regulation and net zero, pay that rewards the chartered.

You survey species and habitats and advise on how development can proceed without wrecking them — consultancy, charities, agencies. Degree expected, pay is modest for the qualification, and the fieldwork season owns your spring and summer.

You design, build and keep running the kit that decarbonises the grid — offshore wind, solar, storage, grid connections. Engineering degree expected, genuinely strong demand, and the best pay in this sector.

You analyse physical evidence and write the reports courts rely on — DNA, drugs, toxicology, digital. Genuinely fascinating work; brutally competitive entry, and far more lab-and-paperwork than the TV version.
